Data

Data is foundational to how we understand and improve child and youth health and wellbeing across British Columbia. At Child Health BC, we use data to inform decisions, monitor system performance, and drive meaningful change.

Data-informed decision-making is the practice of using relevant and reliable data to guide decisions, while also considering context, expertise, and other qualitative factors. It ensures that choices are grounded in evidence—not just intuition or anecdote—to improve outcomes and accountability.

Being data-informed is essential for Child Health BC because it:

  • Ensures accountability across the system
  • Drives continuous improvement in priority areas
  • Provides an objective foundation to:

    • Identify trends
    • Measure performance
    • Detect unwarranted variation
    • Assess the impact of initiatives
